When our railroad was in Wisconsin, we had the Old Mill in the middle of the layout and just beyond our "operation pit". On our layout in Missouri, we wanted to walk through the scenery and the trains running – much the same way we would fly an airplane at a low altitude. The Old Mill is located next to the stone steps that run through the layout. We've added sound, too. So standing on this step you can hear the grist mill on your left and the saw mill on your right. Looking up the hill you'll see the stone Roar River Power & Light plant (Turbine mill with solar panel) and the Glade Creek Mill. We have a good time running trains when people come and "experience" the layout. There is about a ten-foot vertical drop from the top of our mountain to the plateau at the lily pond below. All rocks we have gleaned from the surrounding woods or roads with the help of our trusty 40 year-old Bobcat. Several have fossils within them on the steps.
